Roll forming lines for C, Z and U structural purlins
X Machinery designs and manufactures automatic C/Z purlin roll forming machines for producing C, U and Z structural profiles used in steel buildings, warehouses, industrial facilities, prefabricated structures and photovoltaic mounting systems.
Designed for manufacturers producing multiple purlin sizes, the production line can integrate automatic profile size adjustment, C/Z conversion, servo feeding, punching, roll forming, cutting and PLC recipe control into one flexible production system.
Each line is customized according to the customer’s profile range, steel thickness, material strength, punching pattern and required production capacity.
Each production line is developed according to:
- All C, U and Z profile drawings
- Minimum and maximum web dimensions
- Steel thickness range
- Material grade
- Required production speed
- Required automation level
One line for multiple C, U and Z profiles
Multiple purlin sizes — Structural steel manufacturers rarely produce only one purlin size. Different buildings may require different web heights, flange widths, lip dimensions, material thicknesses, profile lengths, hole patterns and C or Z sections.
C, U and Z profiles — For this reason, X Machinery develops flexible purlin production systems capable of producing a complete family of related structural profiles. Depending on the required profile range, the machine can be designed for C purlins, Z purlins, U channels, C channels and customized structural profiles.
Final production range — The final production range is determined according to the customer’s actual drawings. We strongly recommend providing the complete profile family, rather than only one C or Z drawing.
Automatic size and C/Z profile changeover — X Machinery can provide motorized or fully automatic size adjustment, and for combined C/Z production lines the forming system can be designed to change between C and Z profiles without replacing the complete roller set. On a fully automatic line, the operator selects the required profile size through the HMI and the PLC moves the forming stations to the programmed positions.
Typical line configurations
A standard automatic C/Z purlin production line can include:
Hydraulic Decoiler → Leveling & Feeding → Servo Punching → Automatic C/Z Roll Forming Machine → Cutting → Run-Out Table
For higher automation requirements, the line can be expanded to:
Automatic Coil Loading → Hydraulic Decoiler → Precision Leveling → Servo Feeding → Multi-Station Punching → Automatic Size Change C/Z Forming → Servo Tracking Cutting → Automatic Discharge → Stacking
The final configuration is determined according to actual production requirements.
Typical applications
C, U and Z structural profiles produced on this line can be used for:
- Steel structure buildings: C and Z purlins used as secondary structural members supporting roof and wall systems.
- Industrial warehouses: Structural purlins for warehouses, factories and logistics buildings.
- Pre-engineered buildings: Flexible C/Z profiles for PEB structural systems with multiple building sizes.
- Prefabricated buildings: Cold-formed structural profiles for modular and prefabricated steel construction.
- Agricultural buildings: Roof and wall purlins for barns, workshops and agricultural storage buildings.
- Photovoltaic structures: C, U and customized structural channels for solar mounting and support systems.
Why choose an automatic C/Z purlin production line
- One production platform: Produce multiple related C and Z profiles on one line instead of installing separate machines for every size.
- Automatic size change: Reduce manual adjustment when changing between different purlin dimensions.
- Integrated punching: Produce connection holes according to programmed structural drawings and product recipes.
- Flexible cutting solutions: Pre-cut, post-cut and non-stop cutting configurations can be selected according to the production strategy.
- High-strength steel capability: Machine structure is engineered according to both material thickness and steel strength.
- Production flexibility: Suitable for steel structure manufacturers producing multiple building orders and frequent size changes.
- Expandable automation: Automatic loading, punching, forming, cutting, marking, stacking and production-data functions can be integrated according to production requirements.
Workable materials
The C/Z purlin roll forming line can be designed for:
- Galvanized steel
- Hot-rolled steel
- Pickled and oiled steel
- High-strength structural steel
- Other suitable carbon steel
Before machine design, please confirm material grade, thickness range, yield strength, tensile strength, coil width and coil weight. These parameters directly affect the machine structure and drive configuration.
Available production line options
Depending on the project, X Machinery can integrate:
- Hydraulic coil loading car
- Precision leveling
- Servo feeding
- Pre-punching
- Web punching
- Flange punching
- Automatic C/Z conversion
- Automatic size adjustment
- Servo tracking cutting
- Automatic stacking
- Labeling
- PLC + HMI control
The final line configuration is developed according to the customer’s actual product and manufacturing strategy.
